hello! I am writing something about what rugby means to people and just how generally awesome it is, and would love your input! So, what does rugby mean to you?
Sounds cool! Rugby is where I made almost all of my friends at school, and definitely all of my best friends there. To me, and I think to a lot of people, rugby is more of a life-style than a hobby, as silly as that sounds. You play, but you also become family with the other players, whether you intend to or not. It is something that can instantly bond you with pretty much complete strangers too. I’ll post this publically, because i’d like to hear other people’s input!
rugby alpaca! where are you studying abroad? Because right now I'm abroad in Spain, and I think we are both #5 locks.... Are you playing where ever you are? I decided not to play because I didn't want to get injured for anyone other than my team
Florence, Italy! And yes, I’m number five too! I am actually playing here… sort of. The Italian team I am playing with is very small. We’re talking I was one of four girls at my first practice on Monday. I won’t be playing any games, but I just wanted a chance to play, especially since I was injured this past season and didn’t get much playing time. It’s a 40 minute bus ride and practice was a little rocky, but I’m sticking with it!
The lime is part of another third-half drinking game: if someone drops a lime into your beer, then you have to chug whatever is left in your cup. (Of course, then you have the lime and can get somebody else.) My team usually conspires to get the other team's rookies seriously drunk; we can always spot the veterans because they hold their hand over the cup at all times.
Oh sweet! I’ve actually had that done to me after a game, but with a golf ball. Full solo cup of beer too.
hey so there's something called a murder shot or a rugby shot. which consists of tequila, lime, and salt. You squirt the lime in your eye, snort the salt, and do the shot. I know that sounds ridiculous but it's an actual thing.
Thought that was the one! Boom, we have our answer. Thank you, dear anon.
I have been trying to get a group together around where I live to play some rugby and at best I can get maybe a game of sevens going. The sad part to me is that most of the people seem to just want to play football with the rugby ball. It ticks me off and I was wondering if you had any kind of advice about getting things a bit more organized? I realize this is probably not the kind of thing you have to deal with but any help would be nice.
It’s always tough to get people together by me too, if I’m not at school we can barely find enough for one side of sevens in my town. And I’m a girl, so I’d be playing with guys. I guess the best way to make it more organized is get enough people who are experienced and who are genuinely interested in playing. Don’t be too worried about perfect strategy if you are just playing around, usually the “games” in my town consist of a bunch of guys tackling each other for a ball on an open field. Embrace the informality of it until it becomes a more structured game as people learn more about it. Sorry if this doesn’t really help, I’ll post it publicly so that you might get some more input!
I'm about to go to my first rugby practice! Advice? I'm kinda nervous
Don’t be nervous! No matter what you do, just do your best and give it your all. If you hold back and don’t give it 100% it makes everything harder. And don’t get discouraged when you don’t instantly understand the rules and positions and everything, it takes at least a couple if not a bunch of games (not practices, actual games) to start to get it. If you like it, stick with it, because I promise you’ll end up loving it. Good luck!!
